Friendsgiving

Every year we hold a Friendsgiving, essentially a second Thanksgiving between actual Thanksgiving and Christmas. We invite our friends and family to come hang out, eat lots of food, and watch Hot Fuzz. Since everyone gets so busy around the holidays we made our own holiday to celebrate with friends.

In the beginning

The origin of Friendsgiving stems from an out of season turkey sale and limited freezer space. We had a turkey that needed to be ett and there was no way the two of us could handle it alone. We figured we’d invite a few friends over and we could all eat the turkey together. We didn’t want to cook a whole feast though so we outsourced all the other meal items to our invitees. Thus Friendsgiving became a potluck where we supply the turkey and the house and everyone else supplies the veggies and dessert.

So has it been Written, So shall it be Done

It has now been five years of Friendsgivings and our little get together has become something our friends look forward to each year. If we don’t set a date in November they start asking us about it to ensure that the tradition continues. Honestly, it’s really heartwarming that Friendsgiving has become not just a way to deal with extra bird flesh but a tradition that our friends want to see continued. For however long the discount turkey floweth so too shall the font of Friendsgiving never run dry.
