Warframe on Switch

Tomorrow marks the launch of the free to play darling Warframe on the Nintendo Switch. To help our new Nintennos here’s some quick and dirty tips for getting started.

  • Don’t spend your starting platinum (the premium currency) on cosmetics. Warframe starts with precious few weapons or warframe slots. Every Player starts with a little bit of premium currency that is best spent on warframe or weapon slots as necessary.
  • Excalibur is the easiest and least power dependant of the starting warframes if you aren’t sure what you are doing this is the best starter for you.
  • Broken mod cards are useful at the start but cannot be turned into real mods, it’s best not to invest into levelling them up unless you cannot find a non-broken version (enemies only drop non-broken mods)
  • Mods can be levelled up! You will come across endo in your adventures and that is the currency (as well as credits) for levelling up your mods. You will level up mods through Fusion in the mod station.
  • Use the code FREESWORD in the market code box to get a free heat sword
  • A weapon or warframe starts at rank 0. Using a weapon or warframe levels it up to a max of rank 30. Every rank increases the item’s mod points.
  • Mod points and slots determine how many mods you can equip on your frame or weapon
  • each mod card costs a certain number of modpoints seen in the top right.
  • every warframe has 8 normal slots, 1 aura slot, and 1 exilus slot. You’ll only be dealing with normal slots at the beginning.
  • You can add an orokin catalyst to weapons or an orokin reactor to warframes to increase the mod points of an item from 30 to 60.
  • don’t be afraid of mods, you can equip and unequip them at will in your ship experiment!

Digital Extremes the Warframe Developers have also set up a nice little welcome pack for our new Nintennnos. If you play through the first quest “Vor’s Prize” to completion. you will receive an inbox message in game with the following gifts

  • 50,000 Credits: The legal tender of the Origin System. Credits are used to buy new Weapons and Warframes, but they’re also used to upgrade Mods — the primary source of gear power in Warframe.
  • 3Day Affinity Booster: With this Booster, all of your gear will rank up faster. As you play, your Weapons and Warframes will gain Affinity and rank up. Ranking up increases the Mod Capacity of an item, so you can equip those upgraded Mods.
  • Orokin Reactor: Immediately doubles the Mod Capacity of any Warframe. Install this Reactor on your Warframe’s Upgrade screen.
  • Orokin Catalyst: Immediately doubles the Mod Capacity of any Weapon. Install this Catalyst on your Warframe Weapon’s Upgrade screen.
  • Forma: When a Warframe or Weapon reaches max rank, you can choose to install a Forma on the Upgrade screen. Forma resets the rank of an item back to 0, but it Polarizes a Mod Slot to save on Mod Capacity. Forma is mostly used later in the game, but when you’re ready, it’s there for you.

This gift is available from launch on November 20th until December 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET

Account Transfer

With a new system launch Warframe will once again be offering an account migration for people on PC. Sorry console tenno you’re stuck where you are. Migration creates a one time copy of your PC account on the nintendo switch, which is great for those that don’t want to redo the whole game on a new platform. You can find the full information on account migration in this handy dandy forum post by Community Overlord DE Rebecca.
