The Post from Hell

I don’t write terribly long blog posts. It normally doesn’t take more than a couple hours at most to hammer out my thoughts into something tangible. However, yesterday’s post was took 4 days and engineered this feeling:
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

hang on a second, I need that table.
┬─┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ)

There we go.

The difficulty in writing wasn’t caused by the topic or any physical issue, it was purely interruptions one after another. Which I am now going to use an excuse to make this blog post, here we gooooo!

Dawn of the first Day

Friday night I thought of how we bring our monsters with us wherever we go including interactive media. I figured this is a great thing to share, but it’s late so I’ll start tomorrow with a fresh brain. Saturday dawns and as I open my eyes I am faced with the flashing 00:00 of dread. The power was out. Minor setback, no big deal. Our tabletop Gaming group meets up for breakfast so we just do that a bit earlier and by the time we are back home the power is back.

Great! I sit down at my computer ready to start and I am hit by a wave of exhaustion. Time for a nap I guess. The delay isn’t a big deal I’ll only be out for three hours at most. I wake up refreshed and ready to go sit down at my computer open up WordPress and *ping* messenger goes off. I’m being asked to run my clockwork castle campaign.

The Clockwork Castle

Every saturday our friends come over for tabletop gaming. My roommate is running everyone through an iron kingdoms campaign. I’m not a player in this particular game as I didn’t want to learn a new system and didn’t have the energy when they first started. However, every few weeks someone can’t make it to game so I offered to run a silly oneshot campaign. The oneshot turned into an ongoing campaign and now I run it for them when they are missing players.

I hadn’t been informed we were missing people nor had I receive the notifications that people wanted to play the clockwork castle. The group however, thought that we were playing my campaign and had come over with that in mind. I close my browser and head downstairs we get the table set up and get through maybe 45 minutes before I get an important phone call and we have to end the session for the night.

Dawn of the Second Day

Sunday dawns and already I know that half of my day is booked. It is the weekend of Canadian Thanksgiving and Sunday is dinner with my Dad and Sister. Maintaining energy levels is crucial for social activities so I have to be careful to spread out hygiene tasks. In between getting ready for my day I manage to hammer out a few sentences. Unfortunately Atticus and Isaac, two of my cats, have decided to wage a war of conquest on my desk. Every few minutes they are jumping up on my desk for snuggles. My husband is in the shower during this and so no help at all. By the time I have successfully thwarted the cat’s guerrilla tactics via play time with string it’s time to pack up and head to my Dad’s. Another day bites the dust.

Dawn of the Final Day

Monday the start of a new week and the day for Thanksgiving dinner with the inlaws. Just like Sunday I’ve got a half a day at best to finish this post. I wake up surprisingly chipper and convert a spinach salad into an at minimum 7/10 omelette. Once I return to my desk I bang out an entire paragraph. FeelsGoodMan. I take a moment to appreciate actually making progress and I hear the dreaded *ping* of a steam message.

My clan leader needs me to check in with one of our members. The member is having some troubles so I go offer what help I can. Unfortunately it’s a mechanical issue so there isn’t much I can do. This side quest took up my remaining writing time as we needed to bake a cake for the dinner. As soon as the cake is done we pack up and drive off to the inlaws.

Dinner was good, dessert was good, even the conversation was good but it’s nice to be back home. I figure I can probably finish up the post and call it a night easy peasy. My husband had other plans in mind….. like a spirited discussion of the characters and actions taken in a book series we read together. I was tired already from 3 days of socializing and too much food so I closed my browser for the night.

Aaaaaaah

By Tuesday I was ready to give up on the post. I had made barely any progress and if I did I was shortly interrupted. Better to start a clean slate and escape from whatever curse lay upon that blog post. My husband didn’t want me to though. He helped run interference with the cats and dealt with the grocery order that came in. We also had a nap. By the mid afternoon I had finally managed to complete the post and schedule it for posting. I have never been happier to get through eight paragraphs. I have never wanted to flip a table and chuck it out a window more due to interruptions and social obligations.
