Pusheen

Pusheen is an adorable yet poorly drawn chubby tabby cat who appeared in an online comic strip by Claire Belton and Andrew Duff. The pernicious puss is named after and based on Claire’s own cat that now lives with her parents. The name Pusheen has its roots in the Irish language where the very similar “puisin means kitten.

Before I go any farther, this is neither an advertisement nor sponsored in any way by pusheen. We cool? Great.

WHY I LOVE PUSHEEN WITH THE POWER OF A NEWBORN SUN

There is just something so tangibly cat about pusheen. If you distilled the very essence of house cat down to it’s fundamental building blocks you would be left with a massive mess and pusheen. Pusheen can be petulant, distracting, surprisingly sweet, and gets up to far too much mischief. I think this comic describes it best

While pusheen is slightly anthropomorphized it’s too a far lesser degree than her past and current contemporaries. Both Garfield and Simon’s Cat basically come down to being assholes to their owners and while that is definitely hilarious at times they aren’t cats I would ever want in my home.

Pusheen is always the entire point of her comics, there are no owners within this world, and I think that is what makes the big difference. While the focus for Garfield or Simon’s cat is the interaction between them and their owner, pusheen’s own personality and antics are the only focus for the reader. As any cat owner knows the antics a cat gets up to without you are the best ones.

Round = soft

Chubby things are considered soft, doughy even. This is something we either learn very young or is just an inherent understanding of the human species. Fuzzy things are also considered soft. Pusheen is both chubby and a cat, therefore double soft. Her rounded form and fluffy exterior make her trigger the “oh my god soft must touch!” reflex. You know the one. The one the doctor checks by holding up a puppy and seeing if you go “eeeeee“?

Pusheen stuffed toys are great, they are mostly an oval which is the perfect shape to hug and squish. This also greatly benefits pusheen in the world of making things into pillows. Pusheen pillows fit couches and beds really easily as a decorative throw pillow or a stuffed cuddle buddy.

I ran out of cohereant statemetns

Look, pusheen is just great. Fun name to say, round and soft. I have a stuffed pusheen that eats stuffed sushi. Why are you still reading this when pusheen exists? Go forth and knoweth of pusheen.
